DAVAO CITY — Hundreds of city residents from various legislative districts especially those near the riverbanks and low-lying areas were ordered to evacuate as floodwaters hit many barangays in the city during the Friday flash floods.

As early as 4 o’clock in the afternoon, residents noticed and took videos of the rampaging river waters in Barangays Lamana, Dominga and Suawan all in the hinterlands of the northern portion of the city.

In Barangay Bantol, Marilog District, residents were forced to leave their houses after the water swelled as the footbridge in Banuayan creek collapsed.

At around 10:00 pm, Calinan District Police Chief Captain Jake Golez told Newsline about the rescue operations as about 8 to 20 residents in Purok 17 Villafuerte St., Barangay Calinan were trapped inside heir houses as floodwaters reached the shoulder-high level and they are awaiting the 911’s rubber boats.

In the downtown area, Barangay 9A Kagawad Suzette Rodriguez evacuated her constituents to the barangay gym as flood waters hit many houses.

The affected residents are mostly near the river or riverbanks, where floodwaters often cascade.
