50 new fishing boats raffled for Basilan fisher folks

ISABELA CITY, BASILAN — Fifty (50) new fishing boats were raffled to fisherfolks beneficiaries of Lukbuton Fish Squid Association today January 27, 2021 at the Covered Court, Barangay Lukbuton, this City.

Ceremonial turn-over of the said fishing boats will be held on February 3, 2021 through a virtual (online) ceremony with the Vice President of the Philippines Leni Robredo.

Out of Six Hundred (600) estimated total registered fisherfolks in Barangay Lukbuton, 50 beneficiaries are the recipients of the project, each receiving one unit of fishing boat with complete accessories courtesy of the ANGAT BUHAY PROGRAM of the Office of the Vice President Leni Robredo in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Isabela City.

According to Hji. Ansar J. Amain, President of Lukbuton Fish Squid Association, they did not expect that they will be given this assistance coming from the Office of the Vice President. They expressed their gratitude to the benefactors of the program and furthered that the given fishing boat will surely bring their family priceless joy.

“Dati po ay nanghihiram lang kame ng bangka para magamit sa pangingisda, pero ngayon po hindi ko na kailangan pang manghiram dahil meron na kameng sariling Bangka naipagkakaloob sa amin ng Office of the Vice President, maraming salamat po”, said by Jaupal Amman one the beneficiaries of the AngatBuhay Program.

One unit of chest freezer powered by solar energy were also awarded and set to be turned over to the same barangay to be used by the organization for the preservation of their fresh sea produce.

Beneficiaries will likewise receive about 120 sets of fishing equipment. AngatBuhay Program is the anti-poverty flagship program of the Office of the Vice President Leni Robredo. This is also in line with City’s laid 9-point agenda on ensuring all Isabeleños access to quality health and education services as well as programs and projects that promotes holistic well being.-Richard G.
