Army deploys teams to boost internet connectivity in areas hard-hit by Odette

DAVAO CITY — The Philippine Army deploy teams from the Army Signal Regiment (ASR), Philippine Army utilizes its Humanitarian and Disaster Response (HADR) and Deployable Signal Team (DST) in Visayas Command and Western Command (WESCOM) to boost the disaster and relief assistance efforts spearheaded by the Government in terms of radio and internet connectivity.

In a press statement released on Saturday, the Army said different ASR Signal Battalions such as the 3rd Signal Battalion, 4th Signal Battalion, and 8th Signal Battalion prepared and deployed its respective HADR and DST.

The teams installed essential communication equipment and devices to enable the affected populace to transmit information regarding the situation on the ground and necessary assistance.

A team under the leadership of Capt. Mohadzin L. Camendan of 4SBn provided signal, installed a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT), and conducted connectivity assessment to Headquarters 901st Brigade, Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Placer, Surigao Del Norte to identify additional communication requirement of the said unit.

The same services were rendered by Capt. Rymar E. Dablo in the WESCOM, Puerto Princesa, Palawan. On the other hand, the Signal Installation and Maintenance Battalion (SIMBn), ASR provided Signal Support and installed Satellite Network Telecommunication (SATNET) at Brig. Gen. Benito N. Ebuen Airbase Grandstand, Mactan, Cebu to cater the needed communications to different Government agencies and units situated therein.

The DST led by Capt. Christian P. Pascasio of 8SBn deployed monitoring and Signal Support at Provincial Capitol, Maasin, Southern Leyte.

The Army Signal Regiment continues their efforts to alleviate the impact brought by Typhoon Odette. Together with National Government and Local Government Units – Philippine Army and the Armed Forces of the Philippines will never cease to protect the people and serving the land on whatever circumstances may come.
