DAVAO CITY — The Philippine Army and the Barangay Government of Barangay Sibayan in Davao del Sur started the ground for the establishment of a Barangay Health Station and the Farm to Market road as they collaborate for the barangay development of the once rebel-infested area.

On January 28, the government opened the development of the village with the fund from the national government which is implemented through the provincial Task Force in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict of Davao del Sur.

The project is aimed at providing basic health services for the residents and giving the farmers good access to the market for their products,

Barangay Sibayan used to be a stronghold of the terrorist New People’s Army which marked a series of atrocities including the ambush involving four (4) Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) who were supposed to investigate a shooting incident involving the armed group. The ambush resulted in the early demise of the four (4) SOCO personnel where one was confirmed as pregnant.

The 27th Infantry Battalion in a statement said the groundbreaking ceremony highlights the efforts of the government in providing basic health care and protection at the barangay level as well as free and accessible roads to the far-flung communities throughout the country.

Residents in the area have long dreamed of enjoying government support, which became a reality through the ALCAC Program.

The government has embarked on a multi-billion ELCAC program to gain the confidence of the people who were once forgotten in the development of the country.

Divina Dicdican, the Punong Barangay said She said, “We are grateful in Brgy Sibayan that at last, our community will now have a healthy home and health station, and we will not anymore find difficulty in transporting our products. This initiative is really vital for our barangay that is far-flung, and indeed needs of medical, health, and freeway action.”
