DAVAO CITY – Farmers of Tawi-tawi now enjoys easy access in the transport of their goods from their farm to market as the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), recently opened the road four-kilometer P43.4-million road in the village of Panglima Mastul in the municipality of Simunul, Tawi-Tawi.

Minister Mohammad Yacob, the minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) revealed that the road project was funded by Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP). “This farm-to-market road is an accomplishment (for) Simunul and it will significantly impact our Bangsamoro farmers,”

Yacob and Ammal Solaiman, deputy project director of the BARMM’s Regional Project Coordination Office, led the formal opening and turnover ceremony of the road to the local government unit of Simunul on Sept. 26.

The town of Simunul is one of the top cassava-producing municipalities in the province of Tawi-Tawi due to its fertile soil, particularly in the barangay where the road project was completed.

The farmers had difficulty in bringing their produce to the markets due to rough and muddy roads especially during rainy seasons, a reason why some farmers refused to developed their farmlands.

But the recent opening of the road gives fresh hope to the farmers to cultivate their farms since road is no longer a problem. The road project benefits not just the farmers but approximately 4,958 residents or 720 households in the area.-with report from BIO
