DAVAO CITY — In celebration of the International Women’s Day, workers from the provincial government and representatives from nongovernment organizations gathered on Wednesday morning in Sitio Guang-guang, Barangay Dahican, in the City of Mati, Davao Oriental, to plant trees at the Mangrove Park.

The activity emphasized the value of women’s contributions to environmental protection and women’s empowerment in the neighborhood.

The organizers claimed that it is appropriate to mark Women’s Day by doing something beneficial for the environment even as trees have traditionally been used as symbols of strength and tenacity, attributes associated with women.

The organizing team, headed by Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Department Head Juvy Abarca, thanked the hundreds of participants who joined the cause.

Provincial Administrator Maria Gracia Tiago represented Davao Oriental’s women leader Governor Corazon Malanyaon. Also present were the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Nenette Palmera, Anna Cheryl Castro, and Stephen Paul Uy, as well as other provincial government department heads.

On March 8 of every year, the International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries including the Philippines.
