Marcos Jr. appoints Acorda as new PNP chief

DAVAO CITY — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. today installs police Major General Benjamin Acorda Jr. as the new Philippine National Police Chief, he replaced retired Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr in a turn over ceremony this morning.

Acorda, the 29th PNP Chief hails from Ilocos Norte,the hometown of the President.

The new PNP Chief headed the national police force’s Directorate for Intelligence prior to his appointment.

He served as deputy regional director for administration of the Northern Mindanao police before being named as its regional director in November 2021.

Acorda will also sit as ex-officio commissioner of the National Police Commission (Napolcom).

The PNP chief will lead the 220,000 police force.

He is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sambisig” Class 1991.

The new chief is set to retire on December 3, 2023.-ezc
