DAVAO CITY — Personnel of Task Force Davao foiled the entry of the seventeen ( 17) boxes of smuggled cigarettes in the city Wednesday night at the Sirawan Checkpoint.
Task Force Davao Commander Col. Darren Comia in a press statement said the personnel were conducting the mandatory check on all incoming vehicles when they spotted a luxury vehicle fully loaded with boxes at the luggage compartment.
Comia said the TF-Davao and Toril Police personnel asked the driver to open the compartment and when they learned it contained cigarettes they asked for documents, but unfortunately, the driver couldn’t provide them.
The 45-year-old businessman from Quezon City was ordered to disembarked from his vehicle by the personnel of TF-Davao and Toril Police.
The cigarettes were considered smuggled as it did not have the government inspection sticker on its pack.
The suspect will be charged for violating Republic Act 10863 or The Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
