DAVAO CITY — On July 28, 2023, the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Port of Davao, made a significant discovery as personnel uncovered four used luxury motor vehicles concealed within two abandoned containers, originally purported to contain brand-new cars.

Upon cross-referencing the database, customs officers identified that the consignee lacked accreditation from the Accounts Management Office. Furthermore, due to the vigilant monitoring by enforcement units, the attempt to smuggle prohibited goods was thwarted.

Promptly responding to actionable intelligence information, the Port of Davao initiated a comprehensive inspection of the containers, showcasing unwavering commitment to preventing illegal activities and ensuring adherence to the law.

The examination conclusively revealed that the shipment contained four (4) used luxury cars, imported into the country in blatant violation of Executive Order 156 s. 2002, which strictly prohibits the importation of used motor vehicles.

The Bureau is currently assembling the necessary evidence for the swift filing of pertinent criminal and administrative charges against the importer/consignee and any involved collaborators, if deemed appropriate.

The Bureau of Customs-Port of Davao remains steadfast in its commitment to Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio’s Five-Point Priority Program, aimed at curbing smuggling in all forms. Supported by proactive leadership under the Customs Commissioner, BOC Davao remains vigilant in safeguarding the country’s borders and enforcing customs laws.
