ZAMBOANGA CITY  – An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated, targeting a convoy of four vehicles transporting Governor Henry Oaminal, in Barangay Lapasan, Clarin, Misamis Occidental, at approximately 11 pm on Sunday, October 15.

The convoy was en route from the AYA Hotel & Residences towards Ozamiz City when a roadside IED suddenly exploded, causing damage to the second vehicle in the convoy, a white Isuzu DMAX.

The convoy comprised a PNP Patrol pick-up vehicle as the first, followed by Governor Oaminal’s white DMAX vehicle, and two other security vehicles. The Governor was returning from a meeting at AYA Hotel & Residences and heading home when the incident occurred.

The explosion site, near the House of Suman in Clarin, was sealed off for investigation by the PNP Explosive Ordnance Division.

The Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) strongly condemns this heinous attack, describing it as an unprovoked act of aggression against the Governor of Misamis Occidental. Authorities, together with local law enforcement, are actively assessing the incident to ascertain the circumstances and identify the perpetrator/s.

In his capacity as the WestMinCom Commander, citizens are urged to remain vigilant but composed. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), through the Western Mindanao Command, remains unwavering in its commitment to conducting both combat and non-combat operations aimed at ensuring the safety and security of every citizen.
