Bangsamoro gov’t puts up 74 permanent shelters for IDP’s

DAVAO CITY —– The government of Bangsamoro Region puts up 74 permanent housing units for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who were forced to flee their homes due to armed conflicts in Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Norte.

This, after the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), through its Bahay Program allocated P37-million for the project which will be constructed in Barangay Salman. The ground breaking was held last week.

The houses are expected to be completed in December this year.
 
Suhad Bilang, Municipal Social Welfare Officer of Ampatuan said “Beyond the initial welfare goods provided to them, this project represents a long-term social intervention for families left homeless by calamities and human-induced disasters.”

Bilang said the beneficiaries will be prioritized to receive other MSSD programs which will based ont heir needs, that includes livelihood assistance, educational support, and access to healthcare.”
 
The IDPs, many of whom belong to the indigenous peoples’ communities, will also undergo Parenting Effectiveness Sessions (PES) and Family Development Sessions (FDS) to ensure the well-being and growth of the entire family unit.-with report from Myrna Tepadan/BIO
