BBM appoints Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. agriculture secretary

DAVAO CITY– After sixteen months (16) President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has officially appointed a secretary for the Department of Agriculture to succeed the post he held.

The President appointed Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. as the new Secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Marcos Jr. bestowed the responsibility upon Laurel Jr. following his victorious election in 2022. The appointment is aimed at prioritizing reforms within the sector, ensuring robust food production, and bolstering the income of industry stakeholders.

Laurel Jr. brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously owned the Frabelle Fishing Corporation and served as the President and Chairman of the Agusan Power Corporation.

Before his official appointment as Agriculture Secretary, Laurel Jr. served as a member of the Private Sector Advisory Council, Agriculture Sector Group. This group collaborates with the government to address issues related to food security.

Laurel Jr. has already taken his oath of office, marking the official commencement of his tenure as Agriculture Secretary.
