Davao City – At around 9 pm on Tuesday, November 7, local police from Bunawan Police Station 6, in coordination with soldiers from TF-Davao, conducted a random checkpoint in Barangay San Isidro, Bunawan District, Davao City. During the checkpoint, they noticed the driver of a wing van truck was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to the police report, the driver and the helper voluntarily opened the back of the wing van, revealing a large quantity of cartons of cigarettes. However, they failed to present any legal documents to authorities, leading to suspicions that the cigarettes were smuggled, which would be a violation of the National Revenue Code of 1997.

The individuals involved were identified as Jose Mari Bretaña and Parsol Darie Agassi. Authorities confiscated a total of 51 boxes of cigarettes, and both the driver and the helper are now in custody of the police.
