BIDA anti-drug campaign launched in Davao Oriental

November 22, 2023 by Eugene Hinutan

DAVAO ORIENTAL — In a significant initiative aimed at combating the illegal drug menace in the region, the National Anti-Drug Campaign, under the theme ‘Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan’ KON BIDA PROGRAM, was officially launched yesterday morning in the province of Davao Oriental.

Governor Niño Sotero Uy Junior emphasized that the fight against illegal drugs is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement agencies but a concern for the entire community. The campaign seeks to actively involve local residents in the battle against illegal drugs.

Governor Uy commended the campaign for symbolizing the ongoing trust of the provincial government in protecting the youth and communities. The BIDA Campaign also aims to educate and raise awareness among community members about the dangers of illegal drug use, encouraging them to report any drug-related activities in their neighborhoods.

In addition to garnering community support, the BIDA Campaign pledges to provide assistance and rehabilitation services to those seeking positive change in their lives by breaking free from drug addiction.

Governor Uy assured unwavering support for the government’s anti-drug campaign, continuing the successes achieved during the previous administration under former President Rodrigo Duterte and maintaining momentum under the current leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Junior.

The people’s support for the government’s campaign against illegal drugs remains strong, reinforcing the efforts of law enforcement agencies in the province.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Orle Cabobao conveyed his gratitude for the public’s cooperation and encouraged continued support for the initiative.

The Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office reiterated its commitment to upholding the police force’s pledge to combat illegal drugs in the province.

The launch of the BIDA Program in Davao Oriental saw the participation of officials from key agencies, including the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine Army, and Bureau of Fire Protection. The event, organized by the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), coincided with the observance of Drug Abuse Prevention Week.

A week-long celebration was kicked off with the BIDA Fun Run event and Zumba activities. Additionally, the province is set to host the First Davao Oriental Recovery Summit, providing opportunities for drug reformists to explore new employment prospects and assistance from various government and private institutions.
