“Bailar” town festival showcases Spanish influence

DAVAO CITY — The town of Jimenez in Misamis Occidental celebrated its 166th Founding Anniversary on January 11, highlighting “Bailar Festival” which revived the Spanish influence in their town.

The Bailar Festival was participated by all villagers showcasing their dance prowess and their skills with the colorful influence of the Spaniards during the invasion.

Bong Abelidas, the town tourism officer said, the festival revived the good traits of the Spanish during the invasion.

“Bailar Festival was introduced by the Spanish during their time here,” he quipped.

Jimenez is one of the most popular places in Misamis Occidental because they have preserved the culture and beautiful houses built during the Spanish occupation.

“We are the heritage town of Misamis Occidental, the oldest church in Mindanao sits here, we have 100 houses built by the Spaniards, we preserved them it is our pride,” Abelida explained.

The grand winner for the contest received P70,000.
