Army, CCCH defuse tension in BARMM armed conflict areas

DAVAO CITY — The tension has subsided between two armed fighters in Barangay Matilac, formerly part of the Pigcawayan town in North Cotabato after the Philippine Army and the coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) intervened.

Army Brigadier General Nasser P. Lidasan PA, Assistant Division Commander of the 6ID and chairman of the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH), the police met the warring groups to stop the clash in the area.

The Bangsamoro Government considered barangay Matilac as a Special Geographical Area where skirmishes usually take place.

The meeting was held after Major General Alex S. Rillera PA, head of the 6ID/JTFC ordered to end the rift between the group saying the military would not hesitate to the mess in the area be cleared because the military forces will not hesitate to use for e should the group’s rift continue to hurt the civilian residents.

The military learned that a civilian was while two others were wounded when a fight erupted between the group of barangay Chairman Tong Talusan, the field commander of the 104 base command of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Force of the MILF with 30 armed followers and the group of Ebrahim Piang alias Kagui Sabod, battalion commander of the 105 base command, BIAF, MILF with Brgy Chairman Datu Kulab of the MNLF with the same forces.

Lidasan brokered to patch up the differences between the two groups who are all relatives.

After the settlement of the groups, the residents returned to the communities with the help of the 34th Infantry Battalion and the police.

Army personnel under the 34IB led by Lt. Col. Rey Rico were tasked to ensure that the area would remain peaceful.

Rillera assured the civilian populace that the military would always stand to protect them against any hostilities.
