Marcos promise to help workers hit by El Niño

DAVAO CITY –— The government will provide financial aid to laborers in the agriculture and other sectors whose crops and other sources of income were affected by the El Niño phenomenon are expected to receive financial assistance from the government as part of its on-going aid program amid the persisting drought.

“Sa susunod na araw ay magpapaabot tayo ng tulong pinansyal sa mga lubhang naapektuhan ng El Niño sa buong bansa – yaong mga nasiraan ng pananim at kabuhayan dahil sa tagtuyo’t,” President Ferdinand Marcos said in his speech during the 122nd Labor Day commemoration at the Malacañan Palace on Wednesday.

Marcos also led the 50th anniversary of the promulgation of the Labor Code of the Philippines, which was issued on May 1, 1974 by his father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.

He also received commemorative stamps for the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Labor Code of the Philippines.

The President said the financial assistance to be provided to workers affected by the El Niño phenomenon is just an addition to the ongoing program of the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

He said the government will prioritize helping those affected in Mindanao.

As it is now, five provinces in Mindanao have declared a state of calamity due to the ongoing EL Niño phenomenon.
