DAVAO CITY –Residents from Misamis Occidental need not pass through circuitous routes to travel from and to Bohol or Cebu City in the Visayas.

This was after Starlite Ferries, a maritime company under the Chelsea Logistics Groups marked its  4th route when it officially opened the new route connecting Oroquieta City to Larena, Tagbilaran, and Cebu, and vice versa on April 28.

The Starlite Ferries are stationed at the San Vicente Bajo Port in Oroquieta City.

Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal during the inauguration said the newly opened route opens the door of his province not only for travel opportunities but for business and economic growth.

Oaminal said the new route marked another milestone for Mindanao as it is now connected to the Visayas.

“We are a gateway now from Mindanao to Visayas, this means opportunities for travelers and business, as travel of goods will be delivered through port to port,” the Governor added.

The opening was just in time for the upcoming fiesta within the Bohol Province for the whole month of May.

Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Meyrick Acosta said the new route is geographically strategic and economically viable for the people of Misamis Occidental.

Acosta lauded the bold move of Oaminal in supporting the project as it is to drive more tourists and will mean economic progress not only to Oroquieta but to the province of Misamis Occidental.

The maritime company in a statement said the vessel will depart from Cebu Pier 4 area in Cebu every Friday and Sunday at 9:00 PM and will dock in the San Vicente Bajo Port in Oroquieta.

The partnership with Starlite Ferries symbolizes a joint commitment to fostering development and prosperity in the city and the province, the Governor added.

On its inaugural voyage, the maritime company used the M/V Startlite Archer but will soon be replaced by Starlite Pioneer, a Japan-made ROPAX Vessel which has an overall length of 66.80 meters and a breadth of 15.30 meters.

The vessel has THREE (3) types of Accommodation: Economy Class, Reclining Seats, and Tourist Class Accommodation.
