DAVAO CITY —- Four people died when a big fire broke out in a two-story apartment in Purok Green Valley, Barangay Tinago, Ozamiz City, around 4:20 pm on May 15, 2024.

The police identified the deceased as Divina Gracia Godiz-Gohara, 29 years old, and her 3 other children, a 5-year-old girl and twins who are just over a month old.
According to Divina’s father, Domingo Godiz, he was just in his home next to the apartment where his son and grandchildren live. His wife was also resting when the fire happened.

They quickly tried to save the victims, but they could not enter because the crib was blocked there was a strong fire and you could smell the smoke.
According to Domingo, the fire started in the electric pole and spread through the service drop wire into the two-story apartment.

It is possible that the glowing wire engulfed the curtain and the rubberized floor mat in the rented apartment of his son and grandchildren also caught fire.
Acting City Fire Marshal Fire Senior Inspector Erwin Peter Macamay disclosed that they were not immediately informed about the fire which is only approximately 350 meters away from the Fire Station in BFP-Ozamiz City.

He said they only knew that there was a fire when a lady personally reported to their office.

Macanay is calling on the public to care about their neighbors and intervene. Report immediately to the BFP Fire station so that the same tragedy that killed four innocent mothers does not happen again.
