DAVAO CITY, Philippines —Hundreds of residents from coastal villages of Hinatuan and other low lying areas of Surigao del Sur left their homes for safety as Tropical Storm “Vinta” (Tembin) threaten the province and parts of Caraga region.
This as the National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) in a text blast at 10:30 in the evening December 21, 2017 estimated Vinta’s landfall between Davao Oriental and Surigao del Sur anytime tonight or early morning tomorrow.
The Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council urged residents to stay at Hinatuan Gym for safety.

In Misamis Oriental, the local government has ordered preventive evacuation and urged residents in low-lying areas to proceed to the identified evacuation centers.
In Davao City, The City Government of Davao is asking the residents of to stay indoor as tropical storm Vinta affects the city.
In it’s website, the city government announced “Davao reiterates the advice for the public, who do not have important matters to attend outside their homes, to stay indoors for the next 24 hours from December 21-22 because of Signal No. 1 brought by Tropical Storm Vinta affecting Mindanao.”
For residents living in flood prone areas and landslide danger zones, the city wants them to “prepare for pre-emptive evacuation whenever ordered by the City Government or conduct their own evacuation when they perceive that their safety is at risk. Everybody is advised to exercise prudence in planning their activities from Dec 21-23.”
But it stated “The City Government will not suspend all office work during the duration of the storm. Private companies are advised to plan for their respective employees.”
The Coast Guard XI suspends the operation of all types of seacraft from Davao City to Samal Island and vice versa has been suspended since 5:00 in the afternoon of December 21.

The tropical storm is already 200 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, still moving west at 21 km/h.
