HAGONOY, Davao Del Sur – One person died and 23 others were injured in a bus accident on the Digos-Makar National Highway in Barangay Balutakay, Hagonoy, Davao Del Sur. The incident occurred around 2:00 PM on June 26, 2024.
A report from the Hagonoy Municipal Police Station revealed that a female passenger died at the scene, while the 22 injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The police investigation revealed that the mini-bus was traveling from Santa Maria, Davao Occidental, to Digos City, Davao del Sur.
The bus overturned on a slippery road, wet from the rain, causing it to veer off and crash into a chapel on the lower side of the highway. The impact damaged the chapel, a nearby hut, and a solar light pole.
Authorities in Hagonoy have warned motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed when passing through the area, as it is known to be accident-prone, particularly during rainy weather.
