DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Starting Wednesday, the city government of Samal will strictly enforce a “no plate, no travel” policy for motorists, along with a stringent curfew for minors. These measures are a response to recent crimes involving minors, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
Executive Order No. 41, signed by Mayor Al David Uy on June 27, mandates these new regulations.
“This is to ensure that all minors are already in their houses from 10:00 PM until 5:00 AM,” Uy told Newsline.
Uy asked the parents to closely monitor the activities of their children and ensure that they are home before the curfew sets off.
In addition to the curfew, Mayor Uy emphasized the importance of the “no plate, no travel” rule for both residents and visitors. “We will not allow any motorist, resident or visitor alike, to enter and move around Samal without licensed plate numbers and a driver’s license,” the Mayor added.
Minors are defined in the EO as individuals 18 years old and below. Exceptions to the curfew are made for minors who need to be out for school, church, or civic-sponsored activities. These minors must be supervised by adults and adhere to all procedures under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006.
These actions are part of the government’s effort to curb recent crimes involving minors, despite ongoing police actions and close monitoring of these cases.
Authorities urge residents and visitors to comply with these new regulations to ensure safety and order within the city. Mayor Uy also called on all concerned government agencies, such as the Land Transportation Office, the City Social Services Office, and the Traffic Office, to enforce the law to protect every citizen and visitor of the island.
