Davao Light and IIEE Davao strengthen partnership for professional development

October 31, 2024 by Branded content

DAVAO CITY — Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) and the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IIEE) Davao Chapter have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance professional development within the electrical engineering community in the Davao Region and Southern Mindanao.

The three-year MOU was renewed in a ceremony attended by key officials, including Davao Light Head Engr. Enriczar Tia, IIEE National President Dr. Florigo Varona, IIEE National VP for External Affairs Engr. Esperanza Collado, IIEE Southern Mindanao Regional Governor Engr. Byron Coquilla, and IIEE Davao Chapter President Engr. Ricky Silawan.

This partnership aims to advance the skills and knowledge of electrical engineers in the region through strategic collaboration. Engr. Tia emphasized the importance of the partnership in supporting community growth, upholding the electrical engineering profession, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

“Our shared goal is to build competency, promote the electrical engineering profession, and equip our engineers with the necessary tools. Davao Light has a wealth of expertise that we are eager to share,” Tia stated.

Under the renewed MOU, IIEE will continue to provide essential support through seminars and technical training tailored to Davao Light’s needs. The IIEE will also assist in accrediting the utility’s in-house training and capacity-building programs to meet Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Council standards. In turn, Davao Light’s subject matter experts (SMEs) will contribute their knowledge as Technical Resource Persons for IIEE’s regional seminars, workshops, and training sessions.

Davao Light is dedicated to leveraging its technical resources and skilled personnel to support the success of this partnership, recognizing the critical role employees play in driving sustainable community development.

Industry Visit. Davao Light hosted the industry visit of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Electrical Engineering with the IIEE national and local officers at the electric utility’s 150MVA Digital Substation and System Operations Control Center along J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City.

The MOU renewal was further endorsed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Electrical Engineering, whose members participated in the ceremony and toured Davao Light’s 150MVA Digital Substation and System Operations Control Center on J.P. Laurel Avenue.

Hon. Jaime V. Mendoza, PRC Board Member, highlighted that Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) can enhance professional development through initiatives in power systems planning and operation, distribution, transmission, and substation planning. He also emphasized the importance of safety, stating, “Safety is everybody’s business. We are here for safety.”

The ongoing partnership between Davao Light and IIEE is set to foster excellence within the electrical engineering field, contributing to the professional growth of individuals in the region while enhancing the operational capacities of both organizations.

As an AboitizPower subsidiary, Davao Light aims to empower and add value to the communities it serves by providing tools, services, and pathways to efficiency and well-being, fostering development in its franchise area, which includes the cities of Davao and Panabo, as well as the municipalities of Carmen, Dujali, and Sto. Tomas.
