PRESIDING JUSTICE. Justice Fernanda Cruz Lampas-Peralta takes her oath of office as presiding justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) before President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday (Nov. 18, 2014). Lampas-Peralta has been a CA associate justice for over 20 years. (Presidential Communications Office)

DAVAO CITY – Associate Justice Fernanda Lampas-Peralta has officially assumed the position of Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals (CA), one of the country’s most prestigious judicial posts.

Justice Lampas-Peralta was sworn into office by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during a ceremony held on Monday at Malacañang Palace. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in her distinguished judicial career.

Lampas-Peralta brings with her over two decades of experience as an Associate Justice of the CA. She has been a key figure in the appellate court, known for her legal expertise and integrity. Notably, she is the wife of retired Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta, who served as the 26th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 2019 to 2021.

Prior to her official appointment, Lampas-Peralta had been serving as the Acting Presiding Justice of the CA following the retirement of Presiding Justice Remedios A. Salazar Fernando in September 2023. Her leadership as acting presiding justice provided continuity to the court’s operations during the transition period.

The Court of Appeals, the second-highest judicial body in the Philippines, plays a critical role in reviewing decisions from regional trial courts, exercising jurisdiction over cases involving public officials, and addressing other legal matters of national significance. Lampas-Peralta’s extensive experience and leadership are expected to further strengthen the appellate court’s contributions to the country’s justice system.
