DAVAO CITY – Heavy rains on the afternoon of December 11, 2024, caused flash floods in Purok 2A, Barangay Magdum, displacing more than a hundred families and individuals.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) swiftly conducted a forced evacuation with the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Committee, ensuring the safety of the affected residents. The City Engineer’s Office also coordinated the evacuation efforts.

Evacuees were transported to Col. Saludares Elementary School, where they are being cared for by personnel from the Tagum City Local Government and Barangay Magdum officials.

As of December 12, the city government issued an advisory warning of continued moderate to heavy rainfall in Davao del Norte, including Tagum City and nearby areas.

Based on Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 8 from PAGASA, the advisory attributes the inclement weather to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

The warning states that moderate to occasionally heavy rains may persist for 2-3 hours, potentially affecting neighboring areas such as Braulio E. Dujali, Carmen, Panabo City, and Samal City. The public and DRRM offices are advised to remain vigilant and monitor updates on the weather situation.

The local government continues to provide assistance to evacuees while assessing the extent of damage caused by the flash flood. Residents are urged to stay alert and heed official advisories to ensure their safety.
