DCPO’s six-month report card: A showcase of achievements

December 31, 2024 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Police Office (DCPO), under the leadership of Acting City Director Police Colonel Hansel M. Marantan, reported significant achievements over the past six months, showcasing the effectiveness of its anti-criminality campaigns and dedication to maintaining public safety.

Marantan, who assumed office on July 10, immediately faced challenges, including overseeing operations during the controversial 16-day standoff at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, culminating in the surrender of its leader, Apollo Quiboloy, on September 8. Despite this, his strategic leadership has led to outstanding crime prevention and public safety results.

Anti-Criminality Campaigns: A Strong Stand Against Crime

Under Marantan’s command, the DCPO launched comprehensive anti-criminality campaigns, yielding impressive outcomes:

  • 611 successful operations resulting in the arrests of:
    • 96 High-Value Individuals (HVIs)
    • 700 Street-Level Individuals (SLIs)
  • Confiscation of illegal drugs, including:
    • 4,249.0772 grams of shabu
    • 18,423.3468 grams of marijuana
    • Total drug haul valued at ₱31,104,526.58.

The campaign against illegal gambling also saw success, with 117 operations leading to the arrest of 226 individuals.

In the pursuit of wanted persons, the DCPO executed 956 operations, apprehending:

  • 91 Top Ten Most Wanted Persons (TTMWPs)
  • 188 Most Wanted Persons (MWPs)
  • 677 Other Wanted Persons (OWPs).

Campaign Against Loose Firearms

The DCPO intensified its operations against loose firearms:

  • Conducted 139 operations, resulting in:
    • Arrest of 139 individuals
    • Confiscation of 58 firearms and 31 explosives
    • Surrender of 61 firearms and recovery of 5 firearms.

Under the “Oplan Revitalized Katok” initiative, police visited 4,388 households, leading to:

  • Renewal of 193 firearms, with 236 more in the process
  • Surrender of 80 firearms and deposit of 71 firearms
  • Inspection of 3,660 registered firearms.

Crime Solution and Clearance Rates

The DCPO recorded 465 eight-focus crimes (8FC), including theft, robbery, rape, and physical injury as the most prevalent. Despite this, the office achieved:

  • 74% Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE)
  • 100% Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE), ensuring all cases had suspects identified and charged.

Securing Key Events: A Model of Public Order

The DCPO ensured zero incidents during significant events in the city, including:

  • 39th Kadayawan Festival (August 2024)
  • IRONMAN 70.3 (August 2024)
  • MinDA Caravan of Services (September 2024)
  • National Bar Examinations (September 2024).

Highlight Operations and Arrests

One of the most notable operations involved the seizure of 973 grams of shabu worth ₱6,616,400.00 and the arrest of Rolly Roy Rogero Balasabas, alias “Brad,” identified as the Top 1 City-Level Drug Personality. This operation alone recovered illegal drugs valued at ₱887,326.92.

A Safer Davao City

A strong commitment to public safety has marked Marantan’s tenure. The DCPO emphasized its dedication to fostering a secure and peaceful community for Davao City’s residents and visitors.

Marantan has demonstrated exceptional leadership, solidifying DCPO’s reputation as a model of excellence in law enforcement. His initiatives underscore the importance of strategic and relentless efforts in crime prevention, ensuring Davao City remains a haven for all.

“We didn’t achieve this without the support of every Davaoeños and the city government led by mayor Sebastian Duterte. To everyone Daghang salamat sa suporta sa inyong kapulisan,” the director quipped.
