MARAWI CITY — A total of 500 families affected by the recent war against Moro militants received yesterday the keys to their temporary homes in Sagonsogran, Marawi City.
National Housing Authority General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr., led the turn over ceremonies after President Rodrigo Duterte failed to land in Marawi City due to bad weather.
The President is supposed to turn over the temporary homes to the beneficiaries but the President’s helicopter failed to land in Marawi due to heavy rains.
Instead the President proceeded to Tubod, Lanao del Sur for the briefing by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on the damage of Typhoon Vinta in the province.
Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandrama announced the cancellation of Duterte’s visit to Marawi for the turn over ceremonies.
The Task Force Bangon Marawi raffled the slots for the first batch of internally displaced persons coming from the most affected area (main battle area).
The National Housing Authority targetted 800 houses for turn over but the onslaught of Typhoon Vinta affected the preparation, Escalada said.
The temporary shelter has a 22-square meter area with individual toilet and septic talk, water and power supply, Escalada added.
The cost of each shelter amounts P160,000 and the NHA intends to construct about 1,500.
Asec Felix Castro Jr. of the Task Force Marawi said the recipients who first joined the raffle passed through the criteria set by the local government of Marawi.
Residents from 15 barangays were allowed to return home while residents from four barangays with 675 families are still at the evacuation centers.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Marawi housing cannot be compared to previous housing projects for victims of disasters. “Tingnan ninyo 3 months palang nakalipat na,” Roque added.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
