Barangay Captain arrested for carrying firearms without Comelec exemption

COTABATO CITY — A barangay captain here was arrested at a joint police and Philippine Marines checkpoint for carrying firearms without a valid exemption from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

According to reports, the barangay official was riding in a pickup truck when it was stopped at a checkpoint along Demazenod Street, Rosary Heights 3, Cotabato City. Authorities discovered he was in possession of a .45 caliber and a .40 caliber pistol, along with ammunition, without the necessary Comelec exemption.

The police identified the suspect as Thong Gayak, the Barangay Captain of Tamontaka 4, Cotabato City.

Gayak is currently in police custody as authorities conduct further investigations into the incident.
