DAVAO CITY — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, has ordered the administrative relief of Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) head, Colonel Elmer Ragay, amid concerns over the legality of a rescue operation involving a 14-year-old student from the British School Manila.

The move follows intense media scrutiny and viral discussions on social media.

Marbil clarified that while the child was successfully recovered, the incident warrants a comprehensive review to address public concerns and ensure transparency in PNP operations.

“As public servants, we must be open to investigation and ensure that our actions reflect the highest standards of integrity,” Marbil stated. “This review is necessary to shed light on the events and reinforce public trust in the PNP.”

The internal probe will assess whether proper procedures were followed and identify any lapses in the operation.

Meanwhile, Gen. Marbil confirmed the PNP’s full cooperation with the upcoming Senate investigation into the incident.

“We respect the authority of the Senate to investigate this matter, and we are prepared to fully cooperate with their hearings,” he said.

The PNP Chief reassured the public that the investigation will be conducted fairly and thoroughly, ensuring accountability for any misconduct while upholding the integrity of legitimate police operations.
