Magnitude 5.4 earthquake jolts Southern and Central Mindanao

DAVAO CITY — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Southern and Central Mindanao at 9:42 AM today, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Residents of Davao City felt the shaking ground while others felt the intensity while on their motorbikes.

No Damage has been reported as of this posting.

The Phivolcs reported that the epicenter was located at 06.69°N, 125.20°E, 2 km southwest of Matanao, Davao del Sur.

  • Intensity III – Magpet, Cotabato; Davao City, Davao del Sur; General Santos City; Banga, South Cotabato; President Quirino and Columbio, Sultan Kudarat
  • Intensity II – Pikit, Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Kiamba, Sarangani; Surallah, Norala, Santo Niño, and T’Boli, South Cotabato; Lambayong and Isulan, Sultan Kudarat
  • Intensity I – Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Lake Sebu, South Cotabato; Esperanza, Kalamansig, and Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat

PHIVOLCS has not issued a tsunami warning, but aftershocks are expected. Authorities advise residents to stay alert and follow safety protocols in case of further tremors.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) says they are consolidating the reports from the ground to determine the extent of the damage.
