The fast patrol boat began its mission on Maundy Thursday, April 17, focusing on the waters between Davao City and the Island Garden City of Samal, where passenger traffic is expected to surge during the Lenten break.

Commodore Rejard Marfe, Commander of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao, emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance during this peak travel period. “This is a peak period for passenger travel, and it is our duty to ensure that the maritime domain remains safe and secure. The deployment of BRP Malamawi is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting maritime safety,” he stated.
