DAVAO CITY (October 15) — Several school and high-rise buildings were yellow- and red-tagged by the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) following Friday’s strong earthquakes that struck Davao Oriental and parts of Mindanao.
The administrative and school buildings of Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao were among four structures red-tagged and declared unsafe for occupancy pending structural assessment and repairs. The others were Velvet Suites and Hotel, Toledo Building 3, and Teleperformance Davao.
Mindanao’s tallest building, Vivaldi Residences Davao, was yellow-tagged due to moderate damage, along with Felcris Centrale, Gaisano Mall of Davao’s parking building, and Mesatierra Garden Residences. A yellow tag restricts use until repairs are completed and clearance is issued.
OCBO and the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers are inspecting more schools and commercial buildings reporting cracks and other structural issues.
