CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (October 27) — Police units across Mindanao are on heightened alert for the Undas 2025 observance, as thousands of officers are deployed to cemeteries, transport terminals, and major roads to ensure public safety during the long weekend.

Police on full alert in Mindanao cities

PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police visibility has been increased in all regions of Mindanao, including Davao City, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Butuan, and Cotabato, to prevent crimes while families visit cemeteries and memorial parks.

“We’ve instructed our personnel to maintain visible presence and coordinate with LGUs and barangay officials to prevent burglary and other crimes while families are away,” Nartatez said Sunday.

Thousands deployed for Undas

Around 31,200 police officers are being mobilized nationwide, with hundreds assigned across Mindanao’s key urban centers. They will be joined by personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), plus barangay tanods, radio groups, and volunteers.

Police have set up assistance desks in cemeteries, terminals, and highways to guide the public, manage traffic, and respond to emergencies.

“We urge everyone to remain alert in crowded areas and follow local advisories to keep Undas peaceful and orderly,” Nartatez said.

Safety reminders for residents

The PNP reminded Mindanao residents to secure their homes before traveling for Undas.

“Lock all doors and windows, unplug appliances, and inform trusted neighbors or barangay officials if you’ll be away,” Nartatez added. “If you see suspicious activity, report it right away through your local police hotlines.”

In previous years, Mindanao police units have also intensified coordination with local disaster offices and emergency responders to ensure quick response to accidents and weather-related incidents during the holiday.

As Mindanaoans prepare to honor their departed loved ones, authorities are calling for continued vigilance and cooperation to make this year’s Undas 2025 safe and peaceful for all.
