DAVAO CITY  (November 10) — Organic farmers in the city are urged to get Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) certification to label their products as truly organic.

The certification shows farmers follow proper organic practices for both crops and livestock. Only seven farms in Davao are currently PGS-certified, while others rely on third-party certification for exports.

PGS certification is low-cost and includes peer reviews. Farmers just need verification from their barangay and the City Agriculture Office, plus membership in the PGS-Davao group.

The City Agriculturist Office also offers training, technical assistance, and seedlings to help farmers meet the standards.

CAgrO emphasizes the vital role of organic farmers in ensuring food safety and security, especially during Organic Agriculture Month.
