BROOKE’S POINT, Palawan (November 13)  — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) joined local agencies in planting 6,000 mangrove propagules along the coast of Barangay Barong-Barong on Tuesday — an initiative that not only protects the environment but also helps build stronger, more connected communities.

Led by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), the project aims to shield coastal residents from storm surges and erosion while creating livelihood opportunities for locals through eco-based community programs.

BJMP Mimaropa spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo said the activity reflects the Bureau’s continuing commitment to environmental care and social reintegration.

“Caring for the environment is also caring for people. By joining these programs, persons deprived of liberty and jail personnel contribute to rebuilding lives and communities,” Anglo said.

MDRRMO chief Mohd Raiyan Miranda said the mangrove planting is part of Brooke’s Point’s Disaster Risk Reduction–Climate Change Adaptation efforts, with monthly monitoring planned to ensure the growth of newly planted mangroves and sustain community-based coastal rehabilitation programs.
