Durian Summit to boost Davao farmers’ global edge

DAVAO CITY (November 14) – The upcoming National Durian Industry Summit 2025 is set to help Davao Region’s durian farmers take their “king of fruits” to the world stage.

Set for November 25–26, the summit will bring together international experts from Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia to share best practices in durian production, processing, and export quality standards.

“This is an opportunity for farmers to get first-hand information,” said Fe Oguio, durian focal person of the City Agriculturist Office.

“If you have concerns, this is your chance to ask questions. In the Philippines, we are still behind in durian technology—we have a lot to learn.”

Oguio noted the local industry’s rapid growth, with 19 processing factories now operating, up from only three exporters in previous years.

She urged growers across the region to take part in the two-day event, which is expected to gather 350 to 400 local durian farmers.

“A lot can be learned from this summit, and it’s also a chance to connect with fellow growers and exhibitors,” she said.

Organizers said the event aims to “scale our pride—Philippine durian—to new global heights,” underscoring Davao’s goal to strengthen its position as the country’s durian capital and a major player in the international market.
