DAVAO CITY (November 28) — Construction of the P3.126-billion Davao River (Bucana) Bridge is nearing completion, with only minor works left before its target opening next month, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Wednesday.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the 4.76-kilometer, four-lane bridge is now 99.2 percent complete, based on the latest update from Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain.

Dizon noted that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had directed the agency to fast-track the project, which is expected to ease traffic congestion and boost connectivity between the eastern and western coastal areas of Davao City.

The Bucana Bridge, a key component of the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” infrastructure push, aims to support regional economic growth and improve mobility across major routes in the city.

Sadain said the bridge will open to motorists once DPWH Regional Office 11 completes the asphalt road connecting to Quezon Boulevard—the main access point linking the Bucana Bridge to the Davao City Coastal Road. The access road is slated for completion within December.
