DAVAO CITY (January 21) – A low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and Tropical Depression Ada (international name Nokaen) are not expected to affect Mindanao’s weather in the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.
The LPA, last tracked 2,225 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao, has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the day, according to PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja.
“Like Ada, the LPA has no direct effect on any part of the country,” Estareja said in a briefing.
Tropical Depression Ada was last located 1,245 kilometers east of Central Luzon and continues to move farther away from the Philippines at 10 kilometers per hour. The system has maintained maximum sustained winds of 55 kph, with gusts of up to 70 kph, but is forecast to weaken into a low pressure area later today.
While no direct threat is seen, northeast monsoon (amihan) conditions will continue to affect parts of Mindanao, bringing strong to gale-force gusts over Caraga, Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi, PAGASA said.
Residents in coastal areas are advised to remain alert as gale warnings stay in effect over parts of the country’s seaboards, particularly those facing the open sea.
