MANILA (June 14) – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that deaths from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Maasim, Sarangani on June 8 have risen to 61, with figures still under validation.
As of latest data, 1,403 individuals were injured and 40 remain missing. Most casualties were recorded in Region 12, followed by Region 11.
The earthquake has affected around 173,000 families, or about 724,000 individuals, with some 10,000 people currently staying in evacuation centers. Damage to infrastructure is estimated at PHP1 billion, while about 54,000 houses were reported damaged.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Army, along with the Philippine Air Force and Philippine Coast Guard, continues to deliver food, water, and medical aid to isolated communities. The Philippine Navy also sustained relief operations and support efforts in affected areas, including Balut Island and nearby provinces.
