DAVAO CITY (August 1) – A family is searching for answers after their son, a call center agent, was found lifeless, hanging from a tree in a remote area of Upper London A, Barangay Bawing, General Santos City, at around 5:30 a.m. on July 31.

The victim’s mother, Bernadeth Gabaleo, identified the deceased as Jobert Gabaleo after authorities informed the family about the discovery of his body.

Bernadeth told police investigators that the family had been searching for Jobert after he failed to contact them for nearly two weeks. They knew he had been staying at a boarding house in Barangay Tambler but never returned home, prompting concern among his relatives.

On Friday, police informed the family about the discovery of a lifeless body, which Bernadeth later confirmed was her son’s.

Investigators recovered a handwritten letter near the body addressed to the victim’s family. However, authorities have withheld its contents from the public as the investigation continues.

When asked by reporters what she thought might have happened to her son, the sobbing mother simply replied, “Wala ko kahibalo.” (“I don’t know.”)

The initial police investigation found no signs of foul play or evidence suggesting the involvement of another person. However, authorities said they will continue investigating to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Jobert’s death.

The family has taken custody of his remains and is making funeral arrangements while cooperating with investigators.

Police said the case remains under investigation as they complete the required documentation and await the results of further forensic examination.

Some theorized that the death could have been triggered by depression, a silent phenomenon that claimed dozens of lives. Health authorities are urging individuals to seek proper counseling and advice to overcome the condition. -Editha Z Caduaya
