ILIGAN CITY, Philippines — A  city police officer here  was gunned down,   by still unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen  while he was having his morning jog  Thursday,  April 17, in Zone 4,  Barangay Del Carmen.

Region X PNP spokesperson, Supt. Lemuel Gonda,  identified the fatality as SPO4 Junas Balbutin.

Balbutin was assigned in Police Station 1, this city, but he has been placed under non-duty status because he was to retire July, this year.

Police Senior Inspector Felix Rabago, chief of Iligan City Police Station 1, revealed Balbutin sustained eleven  gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body which caused his  death.

Initial investigation showed, Balbutin managed to run and even advised other joggers  to hide as his attackers were pursuing him.

The witnesses revealed they cannot recognise the suspect because Babutin was already lying on the ground when they showed up.

The gunmen hastily escaped the crime scene   but  Iligan police are hoping that the CCTV footage of  the  nearby residences  was able to capture the  CCTV  images of the suspects

Rabgo said  Balbuntin “Doesn’t have threats that we know about,” Rabago added.

The attack on Balbutin is the second shooting incident in the city after the election gun ban was implemented starting April 14.-Divina M. Suson/Newsline.ph
