DAVAO CITY — A street cleaner of the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) found sachets of suspected illegal drugs ‘ shabu’ along the road in Matina Aplaya here on Tuesday.

The CENRO personnel was doing her daily routine when she found sachets of illegal drugs, she immediately reported the incident to the police.

For doing what was beyond her task, the employee has been lauded for her noble contribution to the country’s fight against illegal drugs.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director P/Col. Kirby John Kraft commended the CENRO personnel and urged Dabawenyos to emulate the action of the CENRO personnel by reporting suspicious items and persons around their neighborhood.

During the interview, the employee said she reported to the police because she wants to stop illegal drug use.

She admitted, at first, she thought the whitish powder was just “tawas” or alum but she became suspicious when she saw a lighter and a tube with the sachets. She and her friend suspected that it could be shabu and must be handed over to the Matina Aplaya police.

“We should do our part as citizens of Davao City and report these kinds of suspicious incidents immediately to the authorities,” Kraft said.

Davao City has recently launched “Culture of Security,” a people-centered security awareness campaign with the tagline “May Nakita? Dapat Magsalita!” to adopt vigilance into their way of life. –Newsline with CIO
