CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao — Soldiers running after suspected members of the Islamic State-linked Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) found high powered firearms in an abandoned toilet in Datu Piang, Maguindanao Friday.

Major Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, said members of 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion found the high-powered firearms inside the comfort room of an abandoned barangay hall at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.

No BIFF member was around when the soldiers arrived.

Sobejana said the recovered guns included two Carbine rifles, a M203 40MM grenade launcher, a .45-caliber pistol, a .38-caliber pistol, and assorted magazine and ammunition.

“The timely and accurate information provided by the concerned civilians led to the recovery of said valuable war material,” he said, recognizing the community’s support in the fight against lawlessness and terrorism in Datu Piang and neighboring communities.

“We will sustain our commitment to ensure the safety and security of the people in Central Mindanao against the BIFF who sow terror and create fear in the communities,” Sobejana added. -PNA
