Banana firm supervisor arrested with P2.2M ‘shabu’ at TF-Davao Checkpoint

July 12, 2020 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY CITY —- A supervisor of Sumifro, a firm engaged in growing and exporting banana was arrested Saturday night at the Task Force-Davao checkpoint in Sirawan with P2.2-million worth of suspected ‘meth’.

Task Force Davao Commander Colonel Consolito Yecla identified the suspect as Allan Rey Peralta, 35 years old, married, Sumifru Supervisor, and a resident of Purok 11, Upper Piedad, Brgy. Bato, Toril, this city.

Davao City Police spokesperson Rose Aguilar in an interview with Newsline said that Peralta was using his company ID to traverse the Davao-North Cotabato borders given that he works in a company providing essential supplies during the coronavirus-19 lockdown.

Police investigation revealed that Peralta was flagged down at the checkpoint, but when he was about to be frisked for inspection he pulled out something from the pocket of his jacket and threw it beside the road that caught the attention of the soldiers and police manning the checkpoint.

When they verified the items scattered on the ground, it turned out to be two (2) pieces jumbo-sized heat-sealed transparent sachet containing a white crystalline substance believed to be “shabu”, wrapped in a paper which has a market value of more or less P2.2-million.

The operatives immediately called for back-up and Toril Station Commander Major Jason Baria said other personnel arrived at the checkpoint.

The ground inspection further revealed that Peralta was carrying one (1) improvised tooter; one (1) lighter color blue.

Peralta was driving his way home with his Honda XRM with licensed plate 8437 LE from Barangay Malamuti, Kabacan, North Cotabato when he was apprehended at the motor inspection area.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency regional director Antonio Rivera has earlier told Newsline that most of the illegal drugs entering the city are from Lanao del Sur area and are transported via the Cagayan de Oro-North Cotabato highway and ultimately enter the Davao city market.

Baria said Peralta is now temporarily detained and he will be charged for violating Violation of RA 9165 is being prepared for filing in court against him.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline
