DAVAO CITY — A package containing various tea products was found to contain 240 grams of metamphetamine or shabu worth P1,632,000 seized by the Bureau of Customs NAIA, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) in a warehouse in Pasay city.

Upon physical examination by Customs examiner, it was discovered that one of the tea product’s packaging was used to conceal a white crystalline substance, suspected as shabu. Sample submitted to PDEA laboratory resulted to be positive for metamphetamine.

Records show that the package came from Malaysia, same as the P1.63 billion worth of shabu seized last October 31, 2020  also wrapped in a tea packaging.

The package declared as “Assorted Foodstuff” was shipped by a certain “Yong lee chei” and sent to a consignee from Caloocan city.

The parcel was turned over to PDEA today, April 23, 2021, for case profiling and build up against persons responsible, and possible prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 9165) in relation to Section 119 (Restricted Importation) and Section1401 (Unlawful Importation) of Republic Act 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, the Port of NAIA remains committed in its efforts  to continuously profile goods, conduct x-ray and K-9 sweeping operations  to curb the proliferation of illegal goods in the country.
