DAVAO CITY (January 7) —  Authorities from Bureau of Customs Cebu City discovered four (4)  of luxury motor vehicles inside a container  from Japan which was  misdeclared.

The shipment imported by Kylemelan General Merchandise with office address at Malabon City arrived in the Port of Cebu last 19 December 2018 under Bill of Lading No. 181206750071 declaring the same to contain only one (1) piece car body for decoration.

But when the container underwent  x-ray inspection, it turned out that the shipment contained four luxury motor vehicles.

The discrepancy prompted the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) to request for the issuance of alert order against the shipment for suspected act of misdeclaration under Section 1400 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

On 3 January 2018,  a physical examination was conducted by the assigned customs examiner together with the importer’s broker and representatives from Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), CIIS, X-Ray Inspection Project (XIP-ESS), and Office of the District Collector.

During the  examination,  four undeclared luxury motor vehicles namely one (1) unit Range Rover Evoque, one (1) unit Porsche 911, one (1) unit Mercedes-Benz, and one (1) unit Alfa Romeo ere found.

Customs  Examiner Abella and CIIS recommended for the issuance of Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) against the whole shipment.-Jiann A. Padillo/NewsLine.ph
