MANILA — The Chinese Embassy in Manila announced on Friday a humanitarian aid of 3 million renminbi (PHP22 million) for those affected by the series of powerful earthquakes that struck parts of Mindanao early this week.

“The Chinese government expresses its deepest sympathy to those affected families and decided to donate 3 million RMB through the Embassy in the Philippines to aid the victims and support the disaster relief efforts by the Philippine government in Mindanao,” the Embassy said.
In a statement sent to reporters, the Embassy expressed hope that the donation would help residents return to normal life.
“China believes that, under the strong leadership of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the government of the Philippines, the Philippine people will overcome the disaster and rebuild their homeland as soon as possible,” it added.

Two days after a 6.6 magnitude earthquake shook North Cotabato on October 29, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Mindanao anew, bringing to more than a dozen the number of fatalities.

According to the latest information from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, a total of 17 dead, 327 injured, and two missing persons were reported in the Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro regions. -PNA
