Church in Tagum City seeks help on potable water supply

DAVAO CITY — The leadership of the Catholic Chruch in Tagum City has sought the intervention if Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib on the erratic water supply in their area.

Tagum Diocese Bishop Medel Aseo and other parish priests met Jubahib on the concerns of the church to include the recent protest about the possible entry of a private power provider for the province.

The water problem problem, according to Jubahib needs a lasting solution “I witnessed how people are affected with the water problem, give us the chance to find a doable solution for everyone,” Jubahib told the church leaders.

The Governor explained that he has commissioned a team to find the best source of water and the study is now ongoing.

In many towns of the province, water sources are just within the mountains but there is a need to connect the sources to the doorsteps and it needs a good system, he added.

The Tagum City Water District is providing supply for the city while other localities especially in the communities who are getting their supply through a community initiated water system while others are operated by private individuals.

The Church also sought enlightenment on issue of the power since the provincial leadership with the ten (10) of the eleven (11) mayors of the province petition

During the meeting, the Governor explained “We met a lot of investors they are willing to pour capital, but they are hesitant because of the power problem, we have a power source but it is not enough, you yourselves experienced that and for us to be more competent economically, we need to address the problem, and even the children who are having online classes are affected.”

The Senate is now set for the second and final reading of House Bill 10554 expanding the franchise area of Davao Light and Power Company Inc. (DLPC), to include Tagum City, Island Garden City of Samal, Asuncion, Kapalong, New Core lla, San Isidro and Talaingod in Davao del Norte and Maco city, Davao de Oro .-Newsline
