Classes suspended all over Southern Mindanao due to Chedeng

March 19, 2019 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY (March 19)— Political leaders in almost all areas of Southern Mindanao issued an order for the suspension of classes in all levels both in pubic and private school due to Typhoon Chedeng since yesterday until today.

Chedeng is now considered a Low Pressure area as it weakened after the landfall at 2:00 am today in Malita, Davao Occidental.

Jenito Atillo, spokesperson of the Department of Education (DepEd) XI told NewsLine.ph “Almost all leaders of Southern Mindanao declared class suspensions.”

Asked whether make up classes will be made to cover up the lost school days, Atillo said “Make up classes if they will have to. But schools are not preparing for the final examination, classes may not be affected.”

First to declare was Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, then Island Garden City of Samal Mayor Al David Uy, which was followed by Governors Nelson Dayanghirang (Davao Oriental), Anthony del Rosario (Davao del Norte), Tyrone Uy (Compostela Valley Province), Douglas Cagas (Davao del Sur); Claude Bautista of Davao Occidental.

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has also prepared for the effects of Chedeng which is expected to affect the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi today, March 19.

Typhoon Chedeng changed its route, has made a landfall over Malita at 2:00am in Davao Occidental.

It was weakened into Low Pressure Area at 5:30 am.

In Comval, Uy suspended all mining activities as PAGASA advised possible landslides to happen due to the tropical depression.
