Congressman Alvarez’s lawyer-daughter now Tagum City Councilor

DAVAO CITY — Lawyer Ana Amelia Alvarez, daughter of Davao del Norte First District Congressman Pantaleon Alvarez has been sworn into office as City Councilor of Tagum City on Friday, September 18.

Attorney Alvarez, who used to serve as Chief of Staff of his father, was appointed by Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) President Senator Aquilino “Koko”Pimentel to replace Councilor Joel A. Padoran, MD, who passed away last July 9, 2020.

The young Alvarez being a member of the PDP-Laban succeeded in the position of Padoran in accordance with Section 45 (b) of the Local Government Code.

The law states that “In the case where the elective local official fills a higher vacant office, refuses to assume office, fails to qualify, dies, is removed from office, voluntarily resigns, or is otherwise permanently incapacitated to discharge the functions of his office where the elective local official is part of a political party only the nominee of the political party under which the Sanggunian member concerned had been elected shall be appointed”.

While serving as Chief of Staff, the lawyer was actively involved in serving women and children in Davao del Norte in various activities while she represented her father in cases that later have another schedule to attend.

In an interview with Newsline a few months ago, the lawyer said “I want to be involved in activities which concern women, children and elderly, and the environment, as those concerns are very close to my heart”.
